Values-based estate planning is a personalized process to develop an estate
plan that highlights your values, captures your priorities, outlines your
intentions, and protects your assets.
As a service to our friends and donors, the MHP Foundation offers confidential
and comprehensive estate planning services at no charge and with no obligation.
Utilizing the planning resources available through one of the nation's
leaders in charitable estate planning, Thompson & Associates, our
adviser Brian Cohoon will personally guide you through a thorough and
thoughtful process to help structure your estate plans according to your
wishes. If you already have an estate plan, Brian can provide an unbiased
second opinion about your options. An estate plan is never final until
its creator can no longer change it; changes in assets interests, family
situations, and tax laws necessitate regular review and updates to assure
that your plan addresses your priorities.
HOW IT WORKS
Introductory Meeting: The process will start with an initial meeting with
you and Brian. If you choose to continue, you will meet with Brian 3 to
6 times total to complete the process.
Your Estate Planning Goals & Objectives: After completing a simple
questionnaire, Brian will work with you to help clarify your estate planning
goals. Goals may include meeting financial needs for you, your spouse/partner
and heirs, and/or including special needs situations. Planning also addresses
making tax-wise decisions in achieving your personal legacy and charitable goals.
Personal Philosophy Statement: From the information gathered, a personal
financial philosophy statement will be created which confirms and restates
your values and objectives.
Estate Asset Review: A net worth statement will be created to aid in the
development of a comprehensive estate plan.
Plan Development & Review: Using the personal financial philosophy
statement, you will be presented with estate planning options that meet
your personal objectives. If you wish, Brian will meet with your professional
adviser(s) to discuss the recommendations. You are welcome to invite your
adviser(s) to attend your meetings with Brian.
Plan Implementation: You are free to work with your personal adviser(s)
to implement your personalized values-based estate plan.
