The goal of physical therapy is to help patients regain physical function and mobility so that they can live life to the fullest once again. This is accomplished through exercises and activities that help your body heal over time.
Physical therapy typically involves the following:
- Regular assessments to see how far you’ve progressed and to ensure treatment is working
- A personalized exercise routine that may involve weight lifting and cardio
- Instruction on how to perform exercises and other activities on your own
- Instruction on pain management techniques
- Practice with medical equipment such as crutches and canes, if necessary
Getting Ready for Your Return Home
Our inpatient physical therapy program helps patients prepare for life at home. Patients are typically discharged from the hospital once they have obtained enough independence to safely live on their own. It is important to note that this does not necessarily mean you have fully recovered. You will need to continue your exercises at home and possibly continue your recovery through outpatient physical therapy. Our physical therapists will make sure you know exactly what you need to do to continue your recovery.
