Shelbyville Physical Therapy

Inpatient & Outpatient Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is a highly personalized experience tailored to meet each patient's specific needs. The primary objective of physical therapy is to assist patients in reclaiming physical function and mobility, enabling them to lead fulfilling lives once more. Achieving this goal involves a combination of exercises and activities aimed at facilitating the body's healing process over time.

Common components of physical therapy include:

  • Regular Assessments: Ongoing evaluations track the progress of each patient and ensure that treatment is effective.

  • Personalized Exercise Routine: Patients receive a customized exercise regimen that may incorporate weight lifting and cardiovascular activities.

  • Instruction and Guidance: Therapists provide detailed instructions on performing exercises and activities independently, empowering patients to continue their progress outside of therapy sessions.

  • Pain Management Techniques: Patients learn strategies to manage pain effectively, enhancing their comfort during the rehabilitation process.

  • Use of Medical Equipment: If necessary, patients receive training in the use of assistive devices such as crutches or canes.

  • Manual Techniques: Therapists may employ hands-on techniques like mobilization or massage to address specific areas of concern.

  • Specialized Techniques: Other specialized techniques such as Astym or instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization, and dry needling may be utilized to promote healing and improve function.

  • Modalities: Various modalities such as traction, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), interferential current (IFC), ultrasound, and cold or heat therapy may be incorporated into treatment plans to further aid in recovery.

  • Aquatic Therapy: For patients who may benefit from it, aquatic therapy provides a low-impact environment for therapeutic exercises, promoting mobility and pain relief.

  • Pelvic Health Therapy: This specialized therapy addresses issues related to pelvic floor dysfunction, offering targeted treatments to improve function and alleviate symptoms.

Each of these components is carefully selected and integrated into the patient's individualized plan of care, ensuring a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation that maximizes outcomes and enhances overall well-being.

Inpatient Therapy

As part of our inpatient therapy program, hospitalized patients receive specialized therapy to regain strength, mobility, and function, enabling them to safely resume their daily activities. Once patients have achieved a level of independence that ensures their safety at home, they are typically discharged from the hospital. However, it's essential to understand that discharge doesn't necessarily signify full recovery.

Continued progress is often necessary, and patients may need to continue their exercises and therapy at home. In some cases, outpatient physical therapy may be recommended to further support recovery. Our experienced physical therapists will provide clear guidance on the exercises and activities needed to continue progress and promote optimal healing.

At Major Health Partners, we are committed to supporting you every step of the way on your journey to recovery, both during your hospital stay and beyond.
