A More Personal Way to Care for Your Breast Health
MHP Women’s Imaging offers breast cancer risk assessment as part of your care. This assessment does not replace your mammogram. Instead, it is an extra tool that helps your care team better understand your personal risk. Before your appointment, you will be asked to answer a few additional questions to help guide your care. When combined with your mammogram, this information helps create a breast health plan that is right for you and provides greater clarity and peace of mind.
What Is a Breast Cancer Risk Assessment?
A breast cancer risk assessment looks at your chance of developing breast cancer over time. The assessment uses a trusted medical tool that reviews:
- Your personal health history
- Your family’s health history
- Other factors that can affect breast cancer risk
Every woman’s risk is different. This tool helps give a fuller picture of your breast health.
What to Expect Before Your Appointment
Before your mammogram, you may receive a secure online questionnaire to complete at home. It asks about:
- Your health
- Your family history of cancer
- Hormonal and reproductive history
The questions may seem detailed and more than what you have experienced in the past, but they help us better understand your personal risk. Most patients finish the questionnaire in just a few minutes!
How Your Risk Score Is Shared
After your mammogram, your breast cancer risk score will be included in your results to your provider . This score shows how your risk compares to other women and helps guide future screening decisions.
Important Things to Know
Your risk score:
- Is not a diagnosis
- Does not mean you have breast cancer
- Does not replace your mammogram
A mammogram is still the best tool for early detection of breast cancer. Your risk score is an added resource to help decide if extra screening or follow-up may be helpful.
Why This Matters for Your Care
Your risk assessment helps your care team decide if you:
- May need additional imaging
- Might qualify for genetic testing
- Would benefit from a more personalized screening plan
This supports shared decisions between you and your care team.
Our Commitment to You
Our goal is to provide clear information and care that is right for you. Understanding your risk helps ensure you get the right screening at the right time.
If you have questions about the questionnaire, your risk score, or your results, our care team is here to help!
