Ion™ Robotic Bronchoscopy at MHP
Major Health Partners (MHP) offers Ion Robotic Bronchoscopy, a safe and minimally invasive surgical procedure used to detect lesions and obtain small tissue samples from the lungs.
The technology uses an ultra-thin catheter, controlled with robotic assistance, to reach nodules that would be otherwise inaccessible.
Our specialists can quickly find and diagnose small spots in all areas of the lungs with greater accuracy than ever before. This helps us start your care plan sooner—often times while cancer is still in its early stages.
Benefits of the Ion™ System
- More Accurate: The Ion reduces the risk of complications and improves the likelihood of obtaining adequate tissue samples.
- Less Invasive: The procedure is minimally invasive, leading to quicker recovery times and less discomfort for patients.
- Real-Time Imaging: Your doctor can see inside your lungs in real-time. This boosts our team’s ability to quickly assess what is happening inside your lung and allows us to start your care plan sooner.
What to expect
Patients receive sedation to minimize discomfort. The procedure usually takes 30 to 60 minutes.
- During robotic-assisted bronchoscopy with Ion, your doctor guides a thin, flexible tube through your airway to reach the lung area being tested. The tube can reach all parts of the lung, even hard-to-reach spots. Once in place, small tools are used to collect a tissue sample.
- After the procedure, you’ll be watched for a short time and then released to go home. Some people may have a sore throat or cough, which usually goes away quickly. You will not be allowed to drive, so you will need to have someone drive you home.
Who Is It For?
The Ion system may be right for you if:
- You have a small or hard-to-reach lung nodule
- You need a biopsy, but want to avoid more invasive procedures
- Previous tests weren’t able to reach the area of concern
